“The Spirit of God, The Spirit of man”

Reference: Job Chapter 27

If I have the spirit of William Shakespeare, I will write like William Shakespeare.
If I have the spirit of Muhammad Ali, I will box like Muhammad Ali.

If I have the Spirit of Jesus Christ, I will exemplify Jesus Christ.

John 20:21-23 “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. [22] And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: [23] Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.”

The Spirit does the work and not the man or woman. Only God can remit or retain sins. It’s the Holy Spirit in the man or woman that remits or retains sins.

We should not try to have the spirit of a teacher, a preacher, or priest but the Spirit of God.

Job explains the source of his character.

Let’s read:

Job 27:1-4 “Moreover Job continued his parable, and said, [2] As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul; [3] All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils; [4] My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.”

The Spirit of God in Job is the source of His character.

Many have the spirit of their earthly teachers. A whole congregation may have the spirit of their pastor. They may talk and act like the pastor. They have the spirit of the pastor instead of the Spirit of God.

The friends of Job, as well meaning as they were, do not seem to have the Spirit of God in their counseling.

We continue our reading:

Job 27:5-7 “God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me. [6] My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live. [7] Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.”

Job worried not about the wicked , for he knew their reward. He held on to righteousness by faith in the blood sacrifice. Job knew he had met the requirement of God, which is faith in the blood sacrifice.

Faith today can always rest in the finished blood sacrifice of God. That’s how we receive the Spirit of God and not that of men.

We conclude our reading:

Job 27:8-23 “For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul? [9] Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him? [10] Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God? [11] I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal. [12] Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain? [13] This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. [14] If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. [15] Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep. [16] Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; [17] He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. [18] He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh. [19] The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not. [20] Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night. [21] The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place. [22] For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand. [23] Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.”

The wicked may always appear to be gaining ground but in vain. The wicked is in torment day and night no matter how they may appear. A life without the Spirit of God is vanity, emptiness, and torment.

Let the Spirit of God come and dwell in you. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. It’s the Spirit, not that man or woman, in Christ!
